Microblading is the (cosmetic) process of filling in thin eyebrow areas to make them look fuller, more beautiful, and as much as realistic they can be. In the previous article, we talked more about what it is and what to be aware of before undergoing this procedure, and here we will talk about the risks, the procedure itself, and the process of recovery.
- What are the risks of microblading?
According to the SPCP, there is a rare possibility of problems with permanent makeup procedures, when all the health standards are followed, particularly in regards to the disinfection and sterilization of equipment.
Some medical complications may also be related to post-procedural care, but such risks decrease when a person follows aftercare instructions properly.
According to one report, tattooing bears the same risks as some other types of tattoo procedures. Such risks can be minimized, and consumers can be protected with better education, information, as well as training for this purpose.
Preparation of the procedure involves:
- Avoiding caffeine beverages or alcohol on the day of the appointment;
- Tinting brows before your appointment;
- Avoid tanning or sunbathing for three days before the procedure;
- No waxing or plucking eyebrows two days before it;
- Do not use chemical peels and other intense facial treatments for 2 or 3 weeks before the appointment;
- Wash and style hair before the procedure, because the eyebrows should not come into contact with water for at least seven days.
On the day of the procedure:
- Talk with the esthetician about any questions and concerns;
- Ask him or her to explain the procedure, options, including style and color, and make recommendations;
- The esthetician will apply a topical numbing ointment on the brow area, which helps reduce discomfort during the microblading procedure;
- When the client is comfortable, the technician begins the procedure;
- The process can take up to 2 hours;
- The client can also feel a scraping-type of sensation in the brow area, but the process is often just minimally painful, as well as very tolerable.
The process of recovery:
After the procedure and for at least one week after, the eyebrows may appear darker. They may also feel sharper because of the scabbing and healing. This is normal, just like experiencing redness and mild swelling.
The esthetician will give the following aftercare instructions:
- Gently wash over your eyebrows with a fingertip, with the use of antibacterial soap and water for 10 seconds, rinsing, and then patting dry.
- Using only a small amount of moisturizing ointment;
- Keeping the brows away from water for 7 to 10 days;
- Avoid putting makeup on the brow area while it is healing;
- Avoid direct sunlight, as well as tanning for at least four weeks after the procedure;
- Do not use facial scrubs or peels for at least four weeks after the procedure;
- Do not sleep on the face for at least ten days after the procedure.
